Erik A. Steigen is currently Director of the Publishing & Royalties Department at Provident Financial Management (Santa Monica, CA).  Provident is a leading U.S. business management firm providing financial services for the entertainment industry.

Steigen's department administers publishing catalogs and master recordings for a number of songwriters and artists, including Lionel Richie, Air Supply, John Waite and Lisa Marie Presley, and handles the publishing income distribution and royalty accounting for clients such as Pearl Jam, the Estate of Stevie Ray Vaughan, Blondie, Bonnie Raitt, A Perfect Circle and Southside Independent Music Publishing (Jonathan Rotem).  Steigen is also heavily involved in publishing catalog evaluations and acquisitions.  In addition, his department specializes in royalty accounting for a number of independent record labels, including New West Records, Hidden Beach Recordings, and MySpace Records. 


Biography

Steigen grew up in Bergen, Norway.  After serving in the Norwegian Air Force, he studied comparative politics at the University of Bergen followed by a year of music studies at Bergen Teacher's College.  He was subsequently accepted to Berklee College of Music (Boston, MA), from which he graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Professional Music Degree in 1996.

Steigen then moved to Los Angeles for a paid internship in the Recording Administration at MCA Records.  After 5 months with MCA he was offered a Legal Assistant position with the boutique law firm of Lenard & Gonzalez (Century City, CA) where Steigen quickly took on Music Paralegal responsibilities and specialized in publishing administration, music clearance and licensing, as well as due diligence for catalog acquisitions and IPO's.

In May of 2002, Steigen began his career with Provident Financial Management.  After a year and a-half, he was promoted to Manager of the Publishing & Royalties Department and has since then been in charge of the department.  He was promoted to Director in August of 2007.

Steigen currently serves on the National Board of Directors of the Association of Independent Music Publishers (www.aimp.org).  He is a song reviewer for SongProp (www.songprop.com) and has also been a guest speaker for the Entertainment Studies Division at UCLA.
